the auto-generated log does contain too much information in regard to the issue.
What I see is:
Setting up docker.io (1.12.3-0ubuntu4~16.04.2) ...

Done.
Job for docker.service failed because the control process exited with error
code. See "systemctl status docker.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
invoke-rc.d: initscript docker, action "start" failed.
The generic journal has no extra data that would help reading this, could you
share the output of both commands as instructed here:
$ systemctl status docker.service
$ journalctl -xe
The second one should be ran just after the failed install/upgrade.
