it is sad to hear that you never got it working to share files with your
windows systems.
As a side note - for whatever it might be worth to you - this simple guide

Now to the issue you see here.
This samba failing to restart on an upgrade.
Unfortunately the logs in the bug are not very useful to pinpoint the
underlying cause.
Very likely from your experiments to get it working you have a config left that
fails to start correctly - this now also blocks the update.
If it never worked anyway I'd almost recommend to purge sambe (apt get remove
--purge ...) that will also remove your config files.
After this you can reinstall it fresh and clean to start again.
