This may be the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1634449 It can reliably be triggered by just crossing the cursor back and forth between screens, but it does not only occur then; often it is a keypress in window (terminal, etc) which triggers it, even when the cursor was already there.
