The text console flickers, and ignores most keyboard input.

This can be worked around by adding nomodeset to the kernel command
line, which will make X fall back on the VESA driver, with all the
limitations inherent to that.

The resulting installed system will have the same problem, which can
alternately be worked around by installing linux-image-generic-
hwe-16.04-edge, but this only partially fixes the problem. The Mesa
radeonsi driver in Xenial is too old for these GPUs, so while
modesetting and display configuration will now be functional, the system
will still entirely lack graphics acceleration. The only workarounds I
know of for this is to source a newer Mesa from a PPA or similar, or
install AMD's proprietary drivers.
