Hi misterlister,
thank you for taking the time to report this bug.
This was most likely a bug in Grub triggered by desktop-base because it calls
update-grub during installation.
I’m closing it as it was raised against a much older Ubuntu version.
Feel free to open a new bug if it still happens on current Ubuntu releases.
