Public bug reported: Playing with PXE boot the Ubuntu Live CD works when using NFS.
Downside with NFS is that it isnt firewall friendly (out of the box) and after the boot completes the client still requires access to the NFS share. A great fix would be if casper becomes capable of fetching filesystem.squashfs through http during boot. This way no NFS is needed and once booted the squashfs is then located in the system RAM so no more network activity is needed (when starting applications in the live CD environment). The following page have provided a patch for this but it would be great if this patch can be part of the official behaviour of casper: https://www.turnkeylinux.org/forum/support/20090127/pxe- boot#comment-25776 Related info: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=309&t=136596 The patch above is also included with this report. ** Affects: casper (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Patch added: "casper-http-simple.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1660206/+attachment/4810585/+files/casper-http-simple.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1660206 Title: Make casper capable of fetching filesystem.squashfs through http To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1660206/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
