Public bug reported:
Hi
I am using Ubuntu Feisty at the moment.
I was always under the impression that my fans on my Toshiba Satellite P100
worked correctly.
However, I noticed that when doing graphics intensive tasks the computer does
get quite hot .. up to 100C while drawing in the Gimp or playing Savage. This
is ambient temperature I believe and not the actual CPU temp as Linux cannot
detect the sensors for the laptop.
When the CPU is working a fan does come on.. however I don't think it's the
Graphics card fan.
BTW The graphics card is Nvidia Geforce 7600 Go with 128MB ram with the
restricted drivers loaded.
According to the Nvidia settings application, GPU temp hardly ever goes over
80C.
Also, the bios is a Phoenix bios which I believe is known to cause
issues.
Lastly I also updated my bios to version 3.30 (latest is now 3.80) and
compiled a custom DSDT (this was to get sound working).
A number of people have reported similar issues on the Toshiba support
forum.. but of course Toshiba does not support Linux at all.
Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks
Rax
