I can confirm that editing the config.txt file BEFORE proceeding the
upgrade process solves it all. Very good job, sirs!

Unfortunately, one question remains. Is it really wise to invest time
into building and taking care of a system based on a distro that will
let you down and keep without any help, or even a word? Bricked for
months? This is a very bitter experience for me.
