If found a corresponding bug report in Debian, and it looks like this is
fixed in gkrellweather 2.0.8-2.1 which has been synced to Ubuntu Zesty.
(I haven't verified this).

However, this bug seems rather significant but the patch rather small.
If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, the patch
can be applied via the SRU Procedure [1]. (I might be able to help out
with preparing a debdiff build, if this sounds interesting.)
