Just to note that I had similar problems that were solved by cyano's suggestion 
in #32
(Using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with a cheap CSR8510 chip USB bluetooth dongle and 
Clarity bluetooth speaker.)

sudo btmgmt le off

Then using the standard Bluetooth Settings app deleted the current
connection from the list of devices and remade the connection.  This
resolved the problem.

However, in order to get the speaker to appear in the list of output
devices in Sound Settings I find I always have to switch the bluetooth
connection to the Clarity speaker on, then off, then on again at the
start of a session (using the Bluetooth notification area drop-down).
After that, it's fine for the remainder of the session.
