I've never had problem with the nvidia drivers and lack of video memory before, but now I have this problem. It appears as a purple screen when running Metacity instead of Compiz.
Workaround for fellow Totem users - Hit alt-f2, type "gstreamer- properties", then select the video tab and select the "No XV" plugin.
