Alright, major n00b here...
a search of the UbuntuStudio WIKI revealed that this is in fact "NOT" a
bug, rather than the UbuntuStudio Gutsy theme is in fact supposed to be
flat black. I've also located and installed the Feisty theme.
Sorry to bother.
