Public bug reported:

After the upgrade, X just wouldn't start. After hours of investigating
and searching around -- with another computer, as the one being upgraded
would only boot on repair mode -- i found out that linux-restricted-
modules comes with NVidia module disabled by default, so the nvidia.ko
module (or nvidia-new.ko) were not present.

Searching I've seen posts on the web referring to the same problem, so i
assume this is happening to more people.

Could the package installation script check for the usage of NVidia
driver on xorg.conf, and if that is the case, keep it enabled ?

The following line should do the job:

$ egrep -qi '^[[:space:]]*driver[[:space:]]*"nvidia"' /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Thx!

** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
