Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Here is my system and configuration:
Asus Z70Va notebook computer (Brand New in 2005)
LCD Resolution: 1680x1050
GPU: ATI Radeon Mobility X700 (128MB Dedicated Memory)
CPU: Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz)
RAM: 2GB Corsair DDR2
HDD: Toshiba 100GB w/16MB cache
Bluetooth: Toshiba (model ?)
Wireless: Intel 802.11a/b/g
Observations:
#1: Feisty refuses to recognize that my GPU can display 1680x1050 with
or without the restricted drivers. I can however tweak the system to
force the GPU / Screen to properly do this... but I am unsure if I am
running on native Mobility Radeon drivers.
#2: When previewing a 3D screensaver, the frames per second runs at
normal speed ONLY when I move my bluetooth mouse around. When I no
longer move the mouse around, the screensaver's fps slows down, but not
to a crawl.
#3: GPU/CPU fan spins much more with Feisty than with Edgy... possibly
due to buggy ATI driver(s) and/or is a result of observation #2.
Please Note, I am NOT running any sort of visual eye candy such as Beryl
or Compiz. I have Feisty running on essentially a vanilla installation
with the exception of having to force the system to work with my
bluetooth mouse / adapter.
I have never bothered to submit a bug report on this matter because I thought
it would have eventually been fixed by now, but after going through Breezy,
Dapper, Edgy, and Feisty, it seems no one has brought this to your attention.
I'm crossing my fingers that Gutsy has this fixed.
** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
