** Description changed:

Upgraded from 16.04 to 16.10 on lubuntu. After upgrade, no ethernet.
"Network Connections" had no ethernet connection listed, and adding one
  did nothing.

  After doing:

- # sudo ifconfig p1p1 up
- # sudo dhclient -r p1p1
  # sudo dhclient p1p1

the ethernet started working for most programs. The first command was
not sufficient. Evolution still cannot connect, however. Also, the added
"Ethernet Connection 1" in "Network Connections" still shows that the
  connection has never been used.

I have not rebooted yet to see if the above changed persist or need to
  be re-entered every time.

+ I have to repeat the above command after every reboot.
