Thank you, excellent debug. The home partition was indeed corrupted. e2fsck fixed the problem. An additional problem of note is that I was using an IOGear KVM switch during install that wouldn't allow the system to determine the types of these peripherals. I bypassed the switch and no longer received error msgs and the system did not abort during the install.
