According to the journal errors, your computer is running GDM under X. The default is for GDM to use Wayland. My understanding is that you need GDM to run Wayland to have the option to use GNOME on Wayland.
But I don't know why GDM is loading for you with Wayland in 17.04 when it apparently did with 16.10. You could try reporting this to GNOME. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME Report it against Core>gnome-session. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance. ** Also affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubuntu-gnome Milestone: None => zesty ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: ubuntu-gnome Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675964 Title: Wayland session not available in GDM.
