In my case the software kill switch can be controlled via
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.1/0000:04:00.0/rf_kill, but after
disabling the radio once and turning it back wifi never works. Switching
also causes minor lockup. From the changelog of iwlwifi 1.0+ it seems
that they fixed some problems with the SW kill switch, upgrading the
driver to 1.1.17 would be great.
