This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug
1448164, so it is being marked as such. There is some talk about fixes
for releases like 16.04 towards the end, but it sounds rather hard (and
unlikely) like Seth Arnold mentioned.
Since you mention git, this might have been pulled in by the git-all
package. In most cases it should work fine to remove git-all and install
the git package instead.
