I'm accepting this because it's no worse than what is there currently,
but spawning the gsettings binary instead of using the API we have in
GLib is really nasty. There are a some ways I can think of to deal with
this:

  - Use the g_settings_schema_source_get_default() and look at the returned 
GSettingsSchemaSource (g_settings_schema_source_lookup(), 
g_settings_schema_has_key()) to see if it has the properties you want.
  - Look at `metacity --version' to decide what to try to do.
  - Require a particular metacity version as a lower bound and don't have cases 
for older ones.
