Public bug reported:

In gutsy I have been unable to get the external monitor working on my
laptop.

Details:
Inspiron 5100
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]
Dell W1700 LCD display

I get a good image on the built in display.

The external display is skewed to the side and the colors off.

The control center only gives me the option for 1024 x 768 although
xorg.conf lists many other resolutions.

I can't turn off the internal display and only have the external display
with the fn-crt/lcd (F8) key on the on as I could with edgy and feisty.

I have tried both the ati and radeon drivers.

I tried copying my feisty xorg.conf to my gutsy install. No help.

In edgy and feisty I have had no problems. I just selected the correct
monitor in System Settings --> Monitor & Display --> Hardware and
restart the X server. Then I have all the various display modes
available.

This is a show stopper for me. My laptop rarely is on my lap. I use it
almost exclusively with the external monitor and and external keyboard.
In essence my laptop is my desktop.

Is there a simple setting I am missing or is this a real bug in X (or
ati driver or gutsy overall)?
