thank you for your report - lets try to look into it together.

What happens in your case is that after package upgrade the samba server
is not (re-starting. That is part of the upgrade process, but can be
affected e.g. by a mis-configuration of the server.

You can check before (and after) the update what the following command is 
reporting:
 $ systemctl status smbd.service

That way we will learn if it was not started before the upgrade or if it
is only failing due to the upgrade. The output will also help to spot
most obvious issues as it contains a snippet of it status messages.
