I can confirm the problem with kernel 4.4.0-75-generic. Removing the virtual dvd drive does not resolve the problem. I have two virtual machines with attached pysical hard drives - perhaps this is another cause for the problem? It is not possible for me to remove the physical drives. Interesting enough: purging the 75er kernel (apt-get -y purge linux-image-4.4.0-75-generic) without removing the virtual dvd drive did help (for the moment).
