Since 3.24 on Arch Linux I have also noticed that if one is to go into
the AO and:

1. Shift-click to open an application without leaving the AO, or use a keyboard 
shortcut in order not to have to go back into the AO but to stay in it.
2. Before the window for the application appears in the view click and drag and 
carry on holding any window in the AO.
3. Release the window when the new one comes up.

If you follow the above steps then you should see something like this:

And if you do the above, but instead of opening a new window, you are to
click the "x" button on and then quickly click and drag a window you
will either find that the same thing happens, or a large gap is left
like here:
