I seem to get different output from Gutsy final. There's still a chance that compiz successfully activates, but the effects are gone on the next login. Usually the Desktop Effects won't activate at all. I attached two text files, each one containing a different output of gnome-appearance- properties after the Desktop Effects failed to activate, output2.txt showing additional information that might be useful.
