** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided => Critical
** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
Status: Confirmed => Triaged
** Summary changed:
- grub-install /dev/mmcblk0 failed. this causes the installation to be
completely stop
+ grub-install defaults to /dev/mmcblk0
** Description changed:
- I am trying to install ubuntu 15.04 on a ASUS x205ta. I got passed the
initial known problem of booting from an usb stick and got ubuntu booted from
the live stick. Running the actual installation, everything runs smooth and all
with everything being copied to the main partition mmcblk0p2 and the efi
partition mmcblk0p1 which are part of the physical device mmcblk0, which to my
understanding is the netbooks main drive. Close to finishing the installation,
the it fails running grub-install on /dev/mmcblk0 and the installation cannot
be resume and no boot loader is created.
- try to into grub manual, via the chroot method, does not work either, because
grub-install /dev/mmcblk0 cannot be execute successfully. grub-install /dev/sda
can, but this doesnt help because i dont have /dev/sda as a physical device.
- I check all alot of source on the internet, and it appears that similar
issues where encountered by other users as well, on the same device as well.
Yet it i have not seen any confirmed solution to it.

+ grub-install defaults to /dev/mmcblk0 over /dev/sda. This causes the
+ installation to fail on laptops that have an sd card. It should prefer
+ /dev/sda, even if there is a sd card present.
