Thank-you. I was unaware of xrandr. The external monitor works properly after I issue a few xrandr commands in Konsole. At the moment I have a script auto run to clean up the display when I log in. I guess I will have to hand-craft my xorg.conf, unless somebody can point out something I am missing.
