I looked through the logs that were attached, but they didn't point me to a 
specific issue yet.
Just that the samba service isn't cleanly (re)starting on an related upgrade.

Since I didn't find any more in the logs, did you try as it wrote on the 
terminal and ran:
$ systemctl status smbd.service

If so did it point to any issue that can be worked on - mostly this is a
broken configuration file or something like this.
