I installed ubuntu on my hp ze4805us laptop today. During the live cd boot I did receive the splash screen for the majority of the boot process, although about 3/4s the way through, the screen switched to text mode, and finished booting the live cd. I then proceeded to install ubuntu 7.10 via the live cd. After installing to the hard drive, I am now presented with a black screen for the entire length of the boot process of ubuntu, every time I boot from the hard drive. This was a fresh install of gutsy. It may also be useful to know that I prev. had edgy, and feisty on this laptop, and usplash worked without problems.
