I think I observe a very similar issue on ubuntu 16.04, only in my case
mouse reaction to touchpad is very laggy and jumpy/choppy. It started
after one of the recent kernel updates. For me linux-
image-4.4.0-72-generic seems to work fine with default kernel options,
linux-image-4.4.0-78-generic is broken, so it must be one of the changes
between these two version which breaks this.
