A workround is:
- go to folder
.thunderbird/YOURTHUNDERBIRDPROFILE.default/extensions/{YOUR_UUID_FIRETRAY_PROFILE}/chrome/skin/icons/linux/hicolor/22x22/apps
- delete the png images of installed mozilla products
- restart Thunderbird
Verified on ubuntu 16.04 LTS + Thunderbird 52.1.1 (64 bit) + FireTray
