2 Systems running both 64bit systems one has 1gig ram installed (old computer)
with 14.04.5 LTS 32bit ram after boot up is 328mb Tried Mint 18.1 Mate on same
system Ram after bootup 600 ish.
2nd system with 2gig Ram ubuntu 16.04 LTS boots up with 867mb Ram.

Would expect newer versions of OS to consume a bit more RAM but well
over double seems very excessive. Installing 16.04 on the 1gig system in
fallback metacity mode was totally unworkable so went back to 14.04 lts
pending getting more ram for that machine but still, double the RAM was
unexpected.
