Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Gutsy Gibbon installs libstdc++.so.6 -

Third party applications (like RealPlayer or firefox) require libstdc++.so.5 -
Even the w32codecs package won't install due to the missing libstdc++5
(apt-get complains that libstdc++5 is not installable.)

If I try to symlink .so.6 to satisfy firefox's .so.5 dependency, I get
the following error messages when I attempt to start firefox:

/usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `GLIBCPP_3.2'
not found (required by /usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin)
/usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `CXXABI_1.2'
not found (required by /usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin)
/usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `GLIBCPP_3.2'

/usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `CXXABI_1.2'
not found (required by /usr/local/firefox/libxpcom_core.so)
/usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `GLIBCPP_3.2'
