Public bug reported:
I have the following problem: Sometimes I get a black screen booting:
Everything works fine until the gnome display manger should start, here I get a
black screen, switching to tty doesn't change anything nor pressing
strg+alt+backspace. When I press the power button, my computer shuts down
correctly, just before it switches off, I can get a short glimpse on the Ubuntu
logo and the empty progress bar.
This is very random, it happens maybe one out of 25 boots. When I boot again,
it usually works again without a pronblem, sometimes I have the same problem
and so I have to reboot again.
After the last crash, I have rebooted into recovery mode and made a copy of
/var/log, so I can provide further information.
I am using Gutsy on amd64 with the fglrx driver provided by the
restricted driver manager and I also have compiz activated.
Here the output of 'lspci -vvnn':
