A cat /proc/cpuinfo and the relevant parts of dmesg probably wouldn't hurt. Just a wild shot in the dark, but might it be a hyperthreading- issue? If you haven't got anything else to do, see if you have hyperthreading enabled in BIOS and if so if it can be disabled.
