Hello,
I've been using Ubuntu 16.04 on this computer since it came out and this is the
first time I've done a bug report after it kept popping up so I am not sure if
I am supposed to respond to this email or not. I had dual boot with Windows XP
and Ubuntu 16.04 on this disk for over a year and a couple days ago reformatted
the disk and Installed Dual Boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 16.04 and did
updates during installation. I installed chromium and dropbox using the
terminal commands found on the Ubuntu Community help pages. This may be where
the problem came from. Dropbox did not want to install correctly and I later
check in the software center and found that dropbox is in the software center.
So I then found community help pages that had commands to uninstall dropbox via
the terminal commands I found in the community help pages. The commands did
not seem to uninstall the packages. I then installed dropbox using software
center and got it working. However, on shut down or restart it is hanging with
the Ubuntu logo and I have to manually reset or shutdown and a report error
appears when I reboot into Ubuntu. I use Ubuntu 99% of the time so I am going
to do a fresh reinstall of ubuntu today and start over using the software
center. I always thought is was best to use the terminal to install and
uninstall programs.
Thank you for the help and I will report back about the results if you want.

I guess you want to reinstall some packages and/or buy a new disk, but
I'm not sure which.
Apparently (dmesg.txt) there is some mediatek driver doing some DMA
havoc, maybe that's what's causing this?
