I have had the same issue with my Lenovo Thinkpad T440s. I thought it was random at first but have figured out how to consistently reproduce the problem. The mouse will jump across the screen when you tap or click in two different locations on the left side of the trackpad very quickly in succession. The mouse jumps in the direction of the second click relative to the first click, so if you use a middle finger to scroll and then an index finger to click, this typically causes the mouse to jump towards the bottom left. I think Juan is correct in that the issue comes from the driver, possibly because the kernel takes over using psmouse.
