Public bug reported: package updates continue to stall during installation, orange progress bar stops mid way or at end.
I then successfully updated and upgraded with.... sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade as suggested at https://askubuntu.com/questions/927725/updates-wont-install-software-center-stuck/927727 this appeared to successfully update and upgrade OS. Hpwever on reboot, OS update still appears in Ubuntu Software update list and still gets stuck on installation running well otherwise thanks guys, Guy ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.8.0-56-generic (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.8.0-53.56~16.04.1-generic 4.8.17 Uname: Linux 4.8.0-53-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.6 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Jun 25 22:26:43 2017 ErrorMessage: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 128 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-05-22 (33 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20170215.2) RelatedPackageVersions: dpkg 1.18.4ubuntu1.2 apt 1.2.20 SourcePackage: linux-hwe Title: package linux-image-4.8.0-56-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 128 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: linux-hwe (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-package need-duplicate-check xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1700357 Title: package linux-image-4.8.0-56-generic (not installed) failed - even after "sudo apt-get update AND sudi apt-get upgrade"manually to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 128 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe/+bug/1700357/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
