Public bug reported:
I installed ferret-vis, and started it with the command ferret_c. Then
this happens:

**ERROR: file undefined or not found: fondat.dat
Ferret crashes, I get returned to the bash prompt. However, the file head
${FER_FONTS}/fondat.dat is present and seems OK. Therefore I did not expect
this error message (and crash).
The problem does not occur when I download Ferret from the upstream
website and following http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/downloads
/ferret-installation-and-update-guide
I installed the latest ferret-vis from 'artful' but I'm using Ubuntu
16.04 (xenial). The reason was this and other problems with previous
version (both installed from the official repositories on the respective
