i'm having the same problem on a thinkpad t60. just so you know, this bug [url=http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469748]has been reported upstream[/url]. [url=http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469748#c17]it appears[/url] that the hal guys switched the type or the brightness variable from uint to int to uint again, and probably confused the gnome power management guys.
