Can you confirm whether this bug is still present for you in the 7.10
release? I have not been able to reproduce the problem here with gedit
using any of the Monospace, Sans, and Arial fonts, but I also don't see
any obvious reason for the behavior to have changed since May. Output
of debconf-show fontconfig-config on this system:
* fontconfig/subpixel_rendering: Automatic
* fontconfig/hinting_type: Native
* fontconfig/enable_bitmaps: false
If you can still see this bug with current gutsy, please forward the
output of debconf-show fontconfig-config on your system.
