Public bug reported:
I tried to reset the password as through Recovery Mode as described on
following page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/ubuntu-help/user-forgottenpassword.html
The system accepted the new password but I could not login with it.
In the next attempt I remounted /
#mount -o remount /
then reset password
# passwd username
and it worked.
The Document needs to be revised advising to remount / as above.
