Public bug reported: This report is for requesting to remove blktap and blktap-dkms (source and binary packages) from the archive in Artful/17.10 and going forward. The rational is that the only actual user was the open xen server (Xen Cloud Platform / XCP) which was removed from Debian and Ubuntu[1]. The Xen hypervisor build in Ubuntu (and Debian) has the blktap support disabled (both blktap1 and blktap2) and also this driver looks to be considered unmaintained upsream[2]. Because of this blktap-dkms usually breaks whenever moving to a newer kernel version. It was made compiling but lacking XCP there was no way to really test functionality.
