Whatever The furtherest I have got is changing the cifs version number in mount.cifs will mount the maps share read only instead of not mounting it at all. I still haven't got to a point where it is mounted for full read write access.
Smbclient looks like ftp, how are you going to open read and write files over that, if the software expects it to be mapped to a folder on the computer so it looks just like a local file.
