i too have faced a similar problem with both 7.04 and 7.10. i have 160GB HDD (SATA) and 40gb HDD(IDE). Installing ubuntu on IDE is no joy as it simply does not boot even when trying to boot with Super Grub bootable CD. Installing Ubuntu on SATA overwrites MBR improperly leaving no bootable HDD.
