Dear Andreas Many thanks for your help. I did what you suggested and it works perfectly. I haven't changed the setup for years and only use it occasionally, but this is the first time it has come up with an error.
I am indeed not running an AD controller - this is a small home network comprising a Linux server and a few Windows end-user machines which I use to support my role as a freelance IT consultant.
