A workaround that I found on reddit:

I created /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-dontvtswitch.conf with the following
contents:
$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-dontvtswitch.conf
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "DontVTSwitch" "true"
EndSection
Now the Alt+Left/Right don't switch to the VT consoles.
But as a side effect it's not possible to switch to the VT consoles with
the usual Ctrl+Alt+F1...F12 shortcuts either.
So this is not good enough...
