I just got exactly this problem with what I take to be the release version.
I was invited by the system upgrade device to update to 7.10 and it had a few 
hiccups, mainly over autentication things.

Then, at the end, when it asked if it should remove obsolete packages I got 
this problem:

use dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files

ptycentra rtremove: package has no fiedl Python-version
dpkg: error processing python2.4-minimal (--remove):
