Public bug reported:

Loading Windows 10 in a virtualized instance in VirtualBox, Windows
always freezes upon boot, right before the "spinning wheel" animation is
supposed to appear. I cannot get a pre-installed VHD to work with the
"recommended" default settings, nor an ISO installation image.

I did however find a workaround:
Windows 10 will boot if I open the Settings for my Windows 10 virtual machine, 
go to System < Acceleration < and change the Paravirtualization Interface from 
"Default" to "Legacy."
