Public bug reported:

After uploading photos to Google Photo the system was frozen. After
given a Crtl Alt Backspace the frozen browser disappeared. As well the
Starter column did. Only the background screen remains. After a forced
restart Ubuntu appears in the Grub list, but did not proceed any more.
Starting up now in the recovery mode, but updating and autoremove
commands are not executable.
